GameOn Episode 42 is here and we’ve got another great line-up for you today!

With 2013 here and a year of great content behind us, we’re taking a retrospective look at some of our top features. This week, we’re looking back at our interview with Internet sensation Little Kuriboh, the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged!

Jumping back into the present, we’re continuing our look at Dust: An Elysian Tail this week. We’ve spoke with the voices behind Fidget and the Sword of Ahrah in past weeks and this time around, we interview Lucien Dodge, the voice for Dust! Lucien talks about getting his start as a voice actor and his experiences with Dust: An Elysian Tail.

And our featured interview guest this week is an amazing voice actor in his own right. We’re joined by voice actor David Kaye, the man behind such characters as Megatron in five Transformers series, Treize Khushrenada of Gundam Wing and Sesshomaru of InuYasha. David Kaye talks about his career as a voice actor, getting his start and some of the exciting projects he’s working on today, including the new Dead Island: Riptide!

Speaking of Dead Island: Riptide, the game has been subject to quite the amount of controversy recently and we’re going to discuss that controversy today! GameOn contributor Kyle Born and GameOn Host Jeff Johnson discuss controversy in video games, with a focus on the bloody bust included with the Dead Island: Riptide Zombie Bait Edition.

And to end this week’s show, GameOn host Jeff Johnson introduces a brand new feature to GameOn, the Pile of Shame! The games are piling up in Jeff Johnson’s house and he’s making a commitment to playing each and every one of them!

Here we are, the Top 10 Games of 2012. GameNTrain been counting down the last days of 2012 by taking a look at the top games of various genres and systems, as chosen by GNT’s staff, volunteers and fanbase.

Today, we’ve tallied up all the votes and will take a look at the games you voted as the best of 2012.

And 2012 was an interesting year for video games. We witnessed the birth of both Nintendo’s Wii U and the PlayStation Vita. We also witnessed announcements for both the Ouya and the Steam Box, both expected to make an appearance in 2013. These platforms are expected to change the console wars as we know it, with many gamers expecting announcements from Sony and Microsoft regarding next generation consoles to be coming soon.

We also saw a plethora of great games make their way into our household, either by download or by picking them up in a store near you. Not only that, but we saw the unveiling of Day One Digital Downloads, the first time major blockbuster or AAA titles have been available for purchase online on day one of a game’s release.

This year, we saw the rebirth of franchises like Doom and SSX, as well as the continuation of franchises like Halo, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Assassin’s Creed. We saw some amazing downloadable titles like Dust: An Elysian Tail and Mark of the Ninja, as well as standalone titles like Sleeping Dogs and Dishonored, both seemingly the start of brand new gaming franchises.

With these great titles out this year, which one got the most attention from gamers? Which of 2012’s crop of games left the biggest impression and will go down as the best game of 2012?

You can check out the GameNTrain Top 10 Games of 2012 here - http://gamentrain.com/gamentrains-best-games-of-2012-top-10-games-of-2012/#.UOHIIuRX39k

We’re nearing the end of our Best Games of 2012 countdown. There are only three days left and only two more lists to go before we take a look at the GameNTrain Top 10 Games of 2012.

Today, we look at one of the greatest aspects of this generation of console gaming; downloadable games.

Downloading your games has long been a staple of PC gaming. Instead of going to the store to buy your game and installing it onto your computer, PC gamers could simply download the game from the game developers website or from an online retailer.

Finally, console developers were able to add this useful way of shopping for games in the current generation of consoles, as part of the PlayStation Network, the XBox Live Arcade and the Wii Shop Channel.

This option has been a boon for both major developers and independents. as its provided an avenue for developers to release smaller projects that normally would not make up for the development cost of printing games to disc and producing the packaging. By bringing these games directly to online markets, it also decreases the cost associated with these games, making them more affordable for gamers.

The fact is, many of the games that have been included as downloadable games through these services are actually better than a lot of the games that have come out this year. Of the over 70 games nominated through GameNTrain’s Best Games of 2012 survey, four of the games in the top 15 are downloadable titles… and a large part of that has to do with accessibility.

Downloadable games are available directly for home and more gamers can easily shell out 10 dollars to try out a new game online as opposed to spending 50-60 dollars to try out a new game when it comes to stores. This accessibility means more people can try games they normally wouldn’t buy if they saw it on a store shelf.

Happy Friday friends! Today’s post is focused on the new year and life changing resolutions. I find that with each new year comes more promises that we make for ourselves. These resolutions are generally things about our lives that we wish to change or to improve.

All year long we are finding ways to re-invent ourselves and better ourselves each day. But for some reason January first brings a lot of promise. This is symbolic of a clean slate, time to start over. Mentally January first is a new beginning, and a time for us to give ourselves the opportunity to change (for real). I am going to give you guys a few tips on how to make your New Years Resolutions stick!

Yesterday, we got the body working with your favorite sports and fitness games of 2012. This was all in an effort to get rid of some of the extra food you’ve been munching on over the holiday break.

Today, we will be working your mind by looking at this year’s hottest racing games and puzzle games. Let’s try and get rid of the turkey brain and get ourselves thinking clearly again!

Now, I know what you are thinking, how does a racing game work the mind? Think back to the last time you played a racing game, maybe a Gran Turismo, a Forza or a Need For Speed. As you watch all of the objects going by you in a blur, notice how quickly your mind has to work to process all of the obstacles and sudden turns that come up on any given course. A racing game is an exercise in hand-eye coordination and mental stimulus, a perfect way to wake up coming back from the holidays.

2012 was a great year for racing games, with the latest installments in some hot franchises coming out. Forza Horizon graced the XBox 360, the latest Need for Speed was released and the downloadable Trials: Evolution was available this year. Not only that, but we saw a bevy of kart racing games hit store shelves, including Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing: Transformed and LittleBigPlanet Karting. We also saw the latest installment in Codemasters F1 series, F1 2012.

2012 definitely provided gamers with a number of options in the puzzle game category as well, with gaming projects by independant developers and major gaming companies. Angry Birds made its debut on consoles (surprising many gamers with what’s being considered a ridiculous price tag) and European gamers got their first taste of Atlus’s Catherine. Gamers also saw some hot puzzle games released from smaller developers and independents, like Fez and Pid, each bringing their own unique take on puzzles that will make you scratch your head.

So, if you are ready to wake up your mind after the holidays, take a look at the top games in 2012 for the racing and puzzle genres, as voted on by GameNTrain’s staff and by the GNT fan base. - http://gamentrain.com/gamentrains-best-games-of-2012-racing-to-2013/#.UOHLyeRX39l

With Christmas and Boxing Day behind us, many gamers are still trying to digest their Christmas feasts, as turkey, roast beef, ham and possibly sugar plums dance their way through our digestive systems. Looks like its time to hit the gym again!

GameNTrain is known for its stance on combining gaming and fitness. There are no better genres of games to combine those elements than fitness games and sports games.

2012 definitely provided gamers with a number of options in both of these categories. All manners of sports were represented in video game form this year. We even saw a rebirth of classic video game franchise SSX, which took the snowboarding video game to an entirely new level.

Fitness games really shined this year as developers got a better grip on making games for the Kinect. Many well-known workout routines were adapted to video game training games. Whether you wanted to dance off the pounds with Zumba or Just Dance 4 or you wanted to fight off the weight with UFC based training, there were plenty of options available for you this year.

Boxing Day is here! Gamers will be hitting stores looking to pick up the best games their favorite system has to offer.

2012 did not disappoint in the offerings available for each of your systems. The XBox 360 saw built on many established franchises this year while the PlayStation 3 introduced some new and exciting games, many of which with an artistic flair.

Games on the PC continued to showcase the strengths of computer-based gaming, giving us some solid MMOs and quality games that would rival anything released on a gaming console.

Meanwhile, many gamers were introduced to the Wii U, bringing with it a slew of games revolving exclusively around its new style of gameplay. Despite this grand release in November, barely any of the gamers polled by GameNTrain listed any of the games released during the system’s launch as their favorite games of 2012, at least not enough to make a quality list around.

Because of this, GameNTrain’s Top Console Exclusive Games of 2012 will focus on the XBox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC, as chosen by GameNTrain’s staff and by the GNT fan base. To find these lists, click here… http://gamentrain.com/gamentrains-best-games-of-2012-console-exclusive/

Merry Christmas everyone!

As you dive into your nicely wrapped presents and stuffed stockings, hopefully Santa Claus has treated you well and brought you some of GameNTrain’s Best Games of 2012!

Our look at the best games of the year continues today and we’re getting a little adventurous! Today, we’re looking at the Action/Adventure and Role Playing Game genre.

Oftentimes, what defines an RPG and an Action/Adventure game has been a little blurred in recent years. Its become much harder to find a traditional Role Playing Game, just as its become difficult to find an Action/Adventure game without certain role playing elements.

But the year 2012 has not disappointed in either of these categories. Whether you like to travel your world or other planets, RPGs have delivered in all sorts of varieties. If you enjoy elements of high-fantasy, then you could embark on a quest against all manners of demons, monsters and baddies. RPGs covered all walks of life this year.

As for the Action-Adventure genre, your settings were just as varied this year. Whether you were battling it out in a Lego-styled Gotham City or travelled back in time to the Colonial era in the Americas, you could face all manners of challenges. You could even travel to the End of the World if that’s more your cup of tea!

To take a look at the top games in 2012 for these two genres, as voted on by GameNTrain’s staff and by the GNT fan base, check out http://gamentrain.com/gamentrains-best-games-of-2012-onward-to-adventure/

King’s Field had dabbled in mixing first-person combat with RPGs for years and years, but games like Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls showed that you could truly merge RPG style elements into a first person universe.

The same proved true for third-person shooters like Mass Effect, which is considered the crown jewel in many role playing gamers collections. Many people would consider Mass Effect to not be a true third-person shooter, but let’s be honest; this game carries marries third-person shooter elements with RPGs in such a way that it would be hard NOT to consider Mass Effect a third person shooter.

The same type of evolution played out for the survival horror genre this year, with games proving that your gameplay did not need to take place in 3D battlefields to be any less terrifying. Take a look at Deadlight for a perfect example of 2.5D gameplay being used in the survival horror genre.

For a look at the top games in 2012 for these three genres, as voted on by GameNTrain’s staff and by the GNT fan base, check out http://gamentrain.com/gamentrains-best-games-of-2012-guns-and-monsters/#.UNh2pORX39k

Hello everyone! Happy Friday, we made it once again. I hope you all found last weeks workout challenging were able to find time in your schedule to complete it. Exercise is one of the most important activities that we can do for our bodies. Just simple movements like the workout last week gives your muscles oxygen, builds strength, and gets your heart pumping, and can put you in a better mood overall. Along with exercise nutrition is just as important if not MORE important for our bodies.

This article will provide you the most up to date research on pre game meals for athletes. I know there are many of you athletes out there who are reading this and I thank you.

No matter what sport you play it is absolutely imperative that you fuel your body with the most nutritiously sound food prior to competition. That is not to say that your overall diet is not important, but in this scenario the meal before the competition is what counts!

Your meal should be filled with nutritious foods that will carry through the whole competition and not leave you hungry and or dehydrated. On that note, you should keep your meals to mostly complex carbs and small amounts of protein. Examples of complex carbohydrates are foods such as: brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread and certain potatoes. Some examples of acceptable pre game proteins are: chicken breast, fish, and lean cuts of beef.

GameNTrain’s Ciaran Allan recently announced another giveaway on GameNTrain! Check it out below…

Well hello there! Once again I am going to shower you all with the contents of my Christmas sack! Seeing as it’s that time of year again, I have decided to treat some of the GameNTrain faithful (and opportunistic tweeters) to a little giveaway as a way of spreading some festive cheer. There aren’t many people that enjoy Christmas as much as I do, so I feel that it’d be nice to give folk the chance to reach my pedestal of Christmas appreciation.

So what’s the prize? Well, the prize this time is not one, two, three or four, but FIVE whole arcade games for you to play on your Xbox 360! Each winner will bag him or herself 5 codes to redeem on Xbox Live. The five arcade games are: Snoopy Flying Ace, Aqua, Lode Runner, The Maw and R Type Dimensions.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply follow both myself and GameNTrain on Twitter and tweet the following message:

@Ciaran_Allen - I just entered @GameNTrain’s Christmas #giveaway and you can too! - http://gamentrain.com/gamentrain-christmas-giveaway-5-free-xbox-live-arcade-games

Once you’ve done that, all you need to do is reply to this article with the answer to the following question:

Finish Duke Nukem’s famous, festive-related quote: What are you waiting for? ……………?

Here’s a clue: The word has been used multiple times in this article and you’ll probably hear it many times within the next week. The winners will be announced by the 27th so get your tweets sent in order to be in with a chance!

Toodle pip and Merry Christmas!

To enter the contest, check out the article on http://gamentrain.com/gamentrain-christmas-giveaway-5-free-xbox-live-arcade-games/
